The performing arts school with a twist.
In today’s world, there are hundreds of schools to choose from when it comes to the performing arts. So how do you decide which one to try out?
Whether you’re looking for a fun way to express yourself or thinking of taking up a career in acting, our holiday workshops are a great way to make new friends, develop confidence as well as coordination skills and improve vocally too.
Big Bold Youth launched Newport Pagnell School of Performing Arts in 2017. As a not-for-profit organisation, Big Bold Youth strives to provide drama activities for young people that are both affordable and accessible. But what makes us unique? We’ve compiled a list of what makes us that bit extra special:
Our online drama classes
We at Big Bold Youth CIC have decided to invest in online resources for our students to continue their passion for drama while at home. We believe that drama is one of the most important parts of a child’s education, teaching them valuable new skills in a fun and creative way. We also think that all young people should have access to regular drama activities in their area.
All our teachers are professional actors, which in turn gives our students the most up-to-date training possible. Big Bold Youth chooses, employ and train our teachers and assistants, all of whom have experience in theatre, television and/or film. This ensures that high standards are maintained across the board.
Our drama classes are solely drama based. A lot of young people love drama, but don’t necessarily want to study singing and dancing as well. We want to ensure that they have the chance to shine without needing to be “triple threats”. Students explore a wide range of transferable skills in our Autumn and Spring terms. This includes improvisation, storytelling, script-based performing, acting for screen and much, much more. In the summer term, students have the chance to bring together all these skills and start rehearsals for their end of year show. Each year, Big Bold Youth produces a specification for all schools to work from, ensuring that students get the most out of each class.
Our safety measures
Child protection is absolutely paramount and is at the very heart of everything we do. All our staff are Enhanced DBS checked, even if they’ve already got one that’s not on the Update Service. In addition, they are also trained in child protection and Special Educational Needs. A First Aid trained member of staff is present at all activities, ensuring that your son/daughter is left in safe hands. Abiding by the Ofsted recommendation of a 1:8 ratio (adult: children), every activity is run by a teacher and an assistant drama teacher. Plus, the size of each session never exceeds 16 students.
Affordability has always been top of the priority list. With this in mind, we have managed to reduce our fees to just £4.99 per 1-hour session. Plus, we offer monthly payment options as well as 50% off for siblings. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience drama and that money shouldn’t be an obstacle. We also work with local businesses to provide further opportunities for our students including free places for some of our holiday workshops.
Drama should be available to everyone FULL STOP. Big Bold Youth trains all staff to ensure that students with Special Educational Needs get the most out of our classes and to help our teachers achieve this, we like to work with parents directly.
